On Sunday, August 26 (better known as National Dog Appreciation Day), Roosevelt Collection invites Chicagoland pups, and their owners, to come celebrate at Paws, Jogs, and Hot Dogs. This day is all about our four-legged friends and will include Wiener Dog Races, a doggy costume contest, dog treats, and more – with all race proceeds going to Sit, Stay, Read, a 501(c)3 literacy org in Chicago that brings human and dog volunteers into low-income CPS schools to increase at-risk students' literacy skills. And as a treat for all the dog owners, Portillo’s South Loop will provide complimentary iconic Chicago-style hot dogs to human guests, while supplies last.
From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., pups and people alike can soak in the rays on the pet-friendly Rooftop park at Roosevelt Collection and enjoy this day of doggy-themed fun. Dashing dachshunds are encouraged to register at the event for the races. Dogs will enter a small enclosed “race track” and race from one of their owners to the other, hopefully beating out their other wiener buds! Host Christine Nendick, founder of Rescue in Style, will be calling the races and cheering all the good boys and girls on to victory!
Don’t have a Doxie? You can still take part in the excitement with the all-breed costume contest for best dressed dog! We'll have fun prizes up for grabs! There will be also local vendors including Dog. Hotel|Daycare, and a complimentary dog treat bar and giveaways from Roosevelt Collection.
Walkups on race day will be accepted until all spots are full. $5 per dog to race; 100% of proceeds to support Sit, Stay Read. No refunds will be accepted. This is a family and dog-friendly, admission-free event to attend. All participating dogs must be friendly with humans and other dogs. All dogs must be on leash when not participating in a race. Owners are required to pick up after their dog(s).
